Word Study For Today: The Book of I John Chapter 4.
Devotion: BE SENSITIVE.
Texts: Ephesians 5:15-21. | 1 Peter 4:1-6. | Mark 3:31-35.
Knowing and doing the will of God is an indication that you are an intricate part of Jesus. >“For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.”[Mark 3:35NET]▪️
To be filled with God’s Spirit will cause your spirit to be at alert, knowing and doing God’s will. Sensitivity is ace. It is the ability of man to respond according to the dictates of the Spirit, as against that of human flesh. >“Those who are motivated by the flesh only pursue what benefits themselves. But those who live by the impulses of the Holy Spirit are motivated to pursue spiritual realities. 7)In fact, the mind-set focused on the flesh fights God’s plan and refuses to submit to his direction, because it cannot! 9)But when the Spirit of Christ empowers your life, you are not dominated by the flesh but by the Spirit. And if you are not joined to the Spirit of the Anointed One, you are not of him.”[Romans 8:5, 7, 9 TPT]▪️
You can’t act out the mind of God if you are void of His Spirit. Human mind fights God, walks in contradiction to God’s Will. Walking in the flesh causes you to walk presumptuously [self-assertive, self-assured, self-satisfied, egoistic and foolhardily]. The Bible says in Ephesians 5:17(TPT)==>“And don’t live foolishly for then you will have discernment to fully understand God’s will.”▪️
Live circumspectly> “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,” [Ephesians 5:15NKJV]▪️BE SENSITIVE.
Be discerning, understanding what the will of God is per time, and following through on it. Carelessness is dangerous, for these are evil times. >“So live the rest of your earthly life no longer concerned with human desires but consumed with what brings pleasure to God.” [1 Peter 4:2 TPT]▪️
Mary the mother of Jesus [from the mention of her name in scriptures], lived her life being sensitive to God. Even at the time the angel appeared to her, giving her the unusual news about her life, she chose to follow in the Spirit. She could have yanked her life in her hands, taking decisions contrary to what she had been told but nay, she followed through. Little wonder even when the child was born, she remained SENSITIVE. >18)“And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 19)But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. 51)Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart.”[Luke 2:18-19, 51NKJV]▪️
She didn’t allow the expressions of who her child is, elude her. She knew by the Spirit what manner of child she bore. How else do you explain her action if not SENSITIVE? >John 2:1-5NKJV)==>1)“On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2)Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. 3)And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” 4)Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” 5)His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it. ”▪️
Mary’s sensitivity poked the ministry of Jesus Christ. She knew the stuff of which He was made, and because she walked circumspectly, she sensed the moment in time (opportunity) for His manifestation, hence she placed a demand on Him. The story tells itself that Mary was right in calling on Him; miracles began from that time on-wards.
We all need to live like Mary, being sensitive to what God’s will is, per time. Careless living will be costly in these last days.
Like the king of Judah, live your life displaying a sensitive spirit before God. > “‘You displayed a sensitive spirit and humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard how I intended to make this place and its residents into an appalling example of an accursed people. You tore your clothes and wept before me, and I have heard you,’ says the LORD.” [2 Kings 22:19NET]▪️
The summary here is as recorded in >Exodus 23:13(NKJV)==> “And in all that I have said to you, be circumspect and make no mention of the name of other gods, nor let it be heard from your mouth.”▪️ Be circumspect! BE SENSITIVE!
-Sing praise, sing praise, sing praise.
-Pray in the language that activates your sensitivity.
-Call on the Lord to help you, ask Him to cause you both to will, and to do of His good pleasure.
-Pray that you will henceforth live a sensitive life, and not presumptuous and careless.
- SEE THAT YOU WALK CIRCUMSPECTLY, NOT AS FOOLS.
