Word Study for Today: The Book of Psalm Chapter 22
Devotion. CLEAR MISSION AVERTS RIVALRY
Text: Jeremiah 1:5-10. | John 3:22-30. | John 4:1-3.
Ever before anyone of us was formed in the womb the Lord Almighty predestined our mission here on earth. Some persons perhaps assume they came to this side of eternity out of the desire of two people to procreate and have a child. That’s only partially true and it’s only the fruit of a deeper root. The root of your existence(your showing forth on this side) is borne out of God’s plan to get a mission accomplished, hence He chose who to commission and He formed you and released you as the fruit of someone’s womb to be born. You came through that ‘vehicle’ of your parents on a long journey to this divide for very clear cut reason/purpose. It is extremely critical for each one of us to get to know the very mission that brought us here. Without a knowledge of purpose, every wind will toss you and I to and fro. You will engage in every unnecessary battle, allow yourself to be swayed by the different schools of thoughts about who you are and what your mission is. Daniel 11:32b says “…the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.”
Knowing who your God fashioned you to be will cause you to be strong and courageous to face your mission without staggering.
It is also expedient to clearly spell out your mission especially to stakeholders. Let it be plain, cast it always so that your identity will be known and very clear to those around you or those who meet you on the track of life. Very important!
Habakkuk 2:2(NKJV)==>“Then the LORD answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.”
In John 3:26(MSG)==>They came to John and said, “Rabbi, you know the one who was with you on the other side of the Jordan? The one you authorized with your witness? Well, he’s now competing with us. He’s baptizing, too, and everyone’s going to him instead of us.”
What an inciting statement. Thank God for John; he already knew his mission without confusion hence he replied thus in >John 3:27-30(AMP)==> …“A man can receive nothing [he can claim nothing at all] unless it has been granted to him from heaven [for there is no other source than the sovereign will of God]. You yourselves are my witnesses that I stated, ‘I am not the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed),’ but, ‘I have [only] been sent ahead of Him [as His appointed forerunner and messenger to announce and proclaim His coming].’ He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands by and listens to him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. So this pleasure and joy of mine is now complete. He must increase [in prominence], but I must decrease.”
John would have been lured into squabbles with Jesus Christ. Ehhh, nip that jealousy and unhealthy competition at the bud. Don’t allow it. Stay on your lane. John said, we are not in any competition, I know my mission and am not confused as to who I am and what I came for. “The bridegroom is the one who has the bride, whilst his friend waiting on him on the d-day is the best-man. At the end of the ceremony, the best-man can’t be incited into jealousy and feud because the groom takes the bride into the inner chamber without him.
Same bait as thrown at John was thrown at Jesus, just wanting to lock horns together making them become rivals >John 4:1-3 (MSG)==>“Jesus realized that the Pharisees were keeping count of the baptisms that he and John performed (although his disciples, not Jesus, did the actual baptizing). They had posted the score that Jesus was ahead, turning him and John into rivals in the eyes of the people. So Jesus left the Judean countryside and went back to Galilee.”
In the case of Jesus He chose to be a man of few words, His deep knowledge of His mission made Him walk away from the vicinity.
Do you know your purpose here on this side of the divide[are you convinced of it]? Your answer to this question will save you from unnecessary aggros that will sure rise up at some point on your journey in life. Your answer to the question posed above, will keep you focused and unshaken by other people’s exploit or progress. Like John you would be able to reaffirm >John 3:29 (NIV)==>“The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.”
BE FULL OF JOY knowing who you are and staying on your lane. No rivalry or jealousy.
