Word Study for Today: The Book of Psalm Chapter 129.

Devotion: GOOD NEWS.

Text: 2 Kings 7:1-16. | 1 Thessalonians 3:6-8. | Isaiah 40:9-11.

Good News is news that is good, a notification or information of something good that will or has happen(ed). It is such news as delight the heart of the hearer. Unto Zechariah the priest, an angel appears bringing good news >”I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.” [Luke 1:19 NASB]▪️

The shepherds as they went about their business also received Good News as brought to them by an angel >Luke 2:10 (NASB)==>“But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;”▪️

Beloved unto you too Good News is coming. An information that will bring you joy in your heart. The world at large is filled daily with sad and bad news. The Media in particular is a disseminator of bad and sad news. You tune in to the news on radio/Tv or read the newspapers and it’s all filled with one sad story or the other. Bible says in Proverbs 15:30 >>>(ERV)==> “A smile makes people happy. Good news makes them feel better.” >>>(GW)==>“A twinkle in the eye delights the heart. Good news refreshes the body.” >>>(LEB)==>“From the light of the eyes, the heart will rejoice, and good news will enliven the bones.”▪️

Good news brings health to the body, it refreshes the body. Good News makes the hearer better in disposition. Good news never leaves you worse off, only leaves you better and much better. There had been famine in the land, what can be good news to a famished city than supply or provision of food to eat and water to drink. The lepers had been just like every other person in Samaria, famished and thirsty. It had reached the state of panic where they dint quite know what next will happen to any of them apart from death. >“Four men with skin diseases were at the entrance of the city gate. One of them asked, “Why are we sitting here waiting to die? If we go into the city, the famine is also there, and we’ll still die. But if we stay here, we’ll die. So let’s go to the Aramean camp. If they give us something to keep us alive, we’ll live. But if they kill us, we’ll die anyway.”[2 Kings 7:3-4 GW]▪️ Can you blame them for thinking this way? They had been without food for so long and there wasn’t hope it was coming from any quarters. In the midst of their fear and anticipation of death, they made moves that led them into the unexpected. They stumbled on God’s provision; and that brought them joy, it was Good News; hence they said >“…This is a day of good news, …Let’s bring the news to the royal palace.”[2 Kings 7:9b&d GW]▪️A day of Good news indeed.

Good news is like cold water on the day of heat >“Good news from a distant land is like cold water to a parched throat. [Proverbs 25:25 CSB]▪️

Good news can be relative except of course if our immediate need/challenge/requirement is the same. To the one believing God for the fruit of the Womb, discovering she is pregnant is good news. To the one in debt, an avalanche of income to clear out the debt or a debt cancellation is absolute good news. The man of the Bible called Job, was good news personified >11) “Any ears that heard me blessed me. Any eyes that saw me spoke well of me, 12) because I rescued the poor who called for help and the orphans who had no one to help them.

13)I received a blessing from the dying. I made the widow’s heart sing for joy. 15)I was eyes for the blind person. I was feet for the lame person. 16)I was father to the needy. I carefully investigated cases brought by strangers. 17)I broke the teeth of the wicked person and made him drop the prey out of his mouth.” [Job 29:11-13, 15-17 GW]▪️

Good News is here >“Behold, on the mountains the feet of him who brings good news, Who announces peace! Celebrate your feasts, O Judah; Pay your vows. For never again will the wicked one pass through you; He is cut off completely.” [Nahum 1:15 NASB]▪️>”A multitude of camels will cover you, The young camels of Midian and Ephah; All those from Sheba will come; They will bring gold and frankincense, And will bear good news of the praises of the LORD.”[Isaiah 60:6 NASB]▪️

Good News, Good News, Good News! >“The Lord gives the word, and a great army brings the good news.”[Psalms 68:11 NLT]▪️

The good news is coming from a host of people. It will come from the north, from the south, from the east, from the west. All round and well-rounded news of good things is coming and in fact is here. >“Let the whole earth sing to the Lord! Each day proclaim the good news…”[1 Chronicles 16:23 NLT]▪️

The Saviour of the world says > “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.”[Isaiah 61:1 NLT]▪️Good news to the poor?  Are you poor? Well, yes! In whatsoever you lack faith of possession or ownership in that you are poor; [hence it could be no money in the pocket, no food on the table, a failing or failed health, no shoes on the feet, no proper or decent clothes on the body, no shelter or a threatened one for lack of payment etc]. In whatever area you are poorly, > “He sent the message to the Israelites, proclaiming the good news of peace through Jesus Christ — he is Lord of all.”[Acts 10:36 CSB]▪️

For you beloved, in this season and beyond it is GOOD NEWS!
