Devotion: HOLY HILL?

Text: Psalm 24:3-6. | Psalm 15:1-5.

The Holy Hill is God’s dwelling place. It’s not an open place(a public square) accessible to just anyone in the same way as our personal bedrooms are not common room in our homes. There are those we allow into our inner chamber. God’s inner chamber is the Holy Hill and though it’s not a public loitering place for all and sundry, yet some people gain access to it. >“For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else. I would rather stand at the threshold of the House of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.”[Psalms 84:11 TLV]. It’s place one should long to be. What a glory His dwelling place will possess; sure it can’t be sensually fathomed.

>“LORD, I have loved the habitation of Your house, And the place where Your glory dwells.”[Psalms 26:8 NKJV]. Psalm 24:3(TPT) says >“Who, then, ascends into the presence of the Lord? And who has the privilege of entering into God’s Holy Place?

It’s a lofty height with prerequisites of access much more than as flying in the plane has. To board a plane on a trip, if nothing else requires your flight ticket, and more than anything else your well being to avoid causality on board. Those who would mount into the heights of God’s Holy Hill, also must possess certain uncompromising character(traits). Psalm 24:4(TPT) offers a tip for those who can ascend into God’s Holy Hill(His dwelling place) >Those who are clean—whose works and ways are pure, whose hearts are true and sealed by the truth, those who never deceive, whose words are sure.”

God Himself is pure and just God, hence those who must get into His presence must of a necessity be of same virtue, for God cannot behold iniquity. >“Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity…”[Habakkuk 1:13a KJV].

It is expedient therefore for anyone who intends to access God’s presence(His dwelling), to do away from sin. >“If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:”[Psalms 66:18 KJV]. >…You hate all workers of iniquity.”[Psalms 5:5 NKJV].

To ascend unto His hill, your hands must be pure, deception must not be found in you. Your words must be the truth always. His word is the only existing truth hence His words must be in your mouth continually. Psalm 15:2b says those who have access to this highly exalted God are always sincere and always speaking the truth. >“The remnant of Israel shall do no unrighteousness And speak no lies, Nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth…”[Zephaniah 3:13 NKJV].

Psalms 15:2-5,  sheds further light on that person who may ascend unto the Holy hill of God. Without a doubt it’s a real tall but achievable order. Such as mount the Holy Hill:>2)“They are passionate and wholehearted, always sincere and always speaking the truth— for their hearts are trustworthy. 3)They refuse to slander or insult others; they’ll never listen to gossip or rumors, nor would they ever harm another with their words. 4)They will speak out passionately against evil and evil workers while commending the faithful ones who follow after the truth. They make firm commitments and follow through, even at great cost. 5)They never crush others with exploitation or abuse and they would never be bought with a bribe against the innocent. They will never be shaken; they will stand firm forever.”[Psalms 15:2-5 TPT].

At His Holy Hill, your passion is required. No dulling. Those who must access that height must be passionate about Him. It’s not for casual believers, it’s for die- hard followers who have a serious buy-in to Him. Those who ascend His Hill are those who hold reverently His covenant(not mouthy people who say something today and another tomorrow); they are people of their words who follow through on promises. Integrity is a potent criteria at His Hill. Titus 2:10 (NLT)says >“…must show themselves to be entirely trustworthy and good…”

God’s Holy Hill gives room to only genuine people who never exploit with unqueal balance. >1)“Dishonest scales are an abomination to ADONAI, but an accurate weight is His delight. 3)The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous will destroy them.”[Proverbs 11:1, 3 TLV].

Slanderers, gossipers, rumor mongers and those who generally slice and hurt with their tongues are not allowed into God’s Holy chambers. The people of God’s Holy Hill are those who have resolved as the Psalmist did >5)“I will silence those who secretly want to slander my friends, and I will not tolerate the proud and arrogant. 6)My innermost circle will only be those whom I know are pure and godly. They will be the only ones I allow to minister to me. 7)There’s no room in my home for hypocrites, for I can’t stand chronic liars who flatter and deceive.”[Psalms 101:5-7 TPT].

Beloved to ascend the chamber of God, >“Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.”[Ephesians 4:31 NLT]. >“Take no bribes, for a bribe makes you ignore something that you clearly see. A bribe makes even a righteous person twist the truth.”[Exodus 23:8 NLT].

Talking of the people of God’s presence? >  “Such people will not be overcome by evil. Those who are righteous will be long remembered.”[Psalms 112:6 NLT]. >“Surely he will never be shaken; The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance.”[Psalms 112:6 NKJV]. >“…the family of the godly stands firm.”[Proverbs 12:7b NLT].

God’s presence is such a place to desire. It’s a place of rest, joy and calmness once you can access it. It’s not an ordinary common room remember? God’s dwelling Place is His HOLY HILL.
