Word Study For Today: The Book Of Psalm Chapter 117

Devotion: LIGHT THE TORCH OF ENCOURAGEMENT.

Texts: Proverbs 10:21.  | 1 Thessalonians 3: 1-10. | 1 Peter 5:1-12.

Encouragement is an act. It is something that incites, promotes, or advances. It is an incentive. In life, everyone everywhere needs encouragement. Psalm 102:4(NLT) says, ==>“My heart is sick, withered like grass, and I have lost my appetite.”▪️

When the heart is sick, the heart is discouraged, and zeal is lost to forge ahead in pursuit. It is dangerous to allow this condition to prevail, and especially to continue to prevail. Sickness of the heart is deadly. >“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.”[Proverbs13:12 NLT]▪️

Between the period of waiting, working out, and destiny fulfillment, encouragement is the panacea needed. Meaning, whilst on the journey of life, the fuel that keeps the vehicle going is encouragement.

Encouragement is feeding with hope. It is to inspire with courage, spirit, or confidence. Lack of encouragement will bring about a shut down. When confidence is lost, it’s like all is almost lost. The water of encouragement springs life. >“The words of the godly encourage many, but fools are destroyed by their lack of common sense. ”[Proverbs 10:21 NLT]▪️

In his intent to encourage the brethren, to stir them up by giving them an incentive; so as to cause them not to lose hope, Peter had to put pen on paper to write them.  >“I have written and sent this short letter to you with the help of Silas, whom I commend to you as a faithful brother. My purpose in writing is to encourage you and assure you that what you are experiencing is truly part of God’s grace for you. Stand firm in this grace. ”[1 Peter 5:12 NLT]▪️This is so so powerful!.

Strengthening the heart of fellow Believers so they can continue in the race, as against giving up [when they get overwhelmed by the trials they are facing; which they are bound to face, because it is every Believer’s shot]. The devil isolates people, making them think that what they are going through or about to face, is peculiar to them. He weakens people’s hearts, by blowing out of proportion the issues of life which is but common. >“The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. ”[1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT]▪️This is great encouragement.

Peter wrote in the spirit of this latter scripture, to the Believers via Silas. Be encouraged, you are not alone on this journey. What you face, I face. Brethren, EVERYONE NEEDS ENCOURAGEMENT.

>I Thessalonians 3:2-3(NKJV)==>…“and sent Timothy, our brother and minister of God, and our fellow laborer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you and encourage you concerning your faith, that no one should be shaken by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that we are appointed to this.”

Encouragement is a ministry we all must embrace, even though God in the significance and essence of encouragement, gave special grace to some people to stand in that office. >“If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging… Do it as unto the Lord. [Romans 12:8aNLT]▪️

There are some people you meet in life, you can’t leave their presence without a lift or a boost in your spirit. They must leave you encouraged. We all may not be able to do it at the degree of these gifted ones, but we should all encourage someone. When you encourage, you save life, you save lives, you save destiny, you save destinies. >“So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. ”[1 Thessalonians 5:11 NLT]▪️

Be an Encourager, do not be a kill joy. Inspire hope in someone, have something soothing and inspiring to say to someone always. Don’t wait till the person exhibits or tells you they are discouraged. Light the torch of encouragement always!.

Joshua wasn’t depressed, yet God instructed Moses ahead of time to encourage, [give courage] to Joshua so his hands will bear the rule as the baton was being handed over to him, to carry on the leading of God’s people into the promised land. Who was best to have filled this encouragement role in Joshua’s life, if not Moses. Moses had walked same path, he knows how overbearing the children of Israel can be, hence had a very good idea of what Joshua would encounter, and how they could provoke him to giving up. >“Joshua the son of Nun, who stands before you, he shall go in there. Encourage him, for he shall cause Israel to inherit it. ”[Deuteronomy 1:38NKJV]▪️

>“But command Joshua, and encourage him and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you will see.’”[Deuteronomy 3:28 NKJV]▪️

Beloved, who are you encouraging? To whom are you speaking a word, or a news of strength. >“With this news, strengthen those who have tired hands, and encourage those who have weak knees. Say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you. ”[Isaiah 35:3-4NLT]▪️

Go right ahead, don’t stay mute; encourage someone with your words, with a testimony of the good things the Lord has done or can do. Don’t be a wailer or complainer. Don’t join the pity party club. Be an encourager.

Everyone needs encouragement. You need it, She needs it, He needs it, I need it. The man needs it, the woman needs it, children need it, the aged needs it, the young needs it. Members need it, Pastors need it, Staff needs it, Boss needs it Citizens need it, Rulers need it. Come on now, everyone everywhere needs encouragement. > Romans 1:12 (NLT)says==> “When we get together, I want to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours.”▪️

Don’t forsake the coming together with people of like minds, don’t forsake fellowship, it’s the place of strength and courage. Don’t abandon your company [your company of believers; your prophetic company]… there is strength in synergy. >“And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. ”[Hebrews 10:25 NLT]▪️

Let’s stand together Beloved; LIGHT THE TORCH OF ENCOURAGEMENT.
