Word Study For Today: The Book Of Psalm Chapter 58.
Devotion: SET YOUR HEART TO WISDOM.
Text: Luke 1:5-18; John 1-19-27. | Luke 1:26-33; 2:40-52. | Jeremiah 1:4-10.
Wisdom is the principal thing, said David to Solomon… Sell everything and buy wisdom [records the Message translation of Proverbs 4:7].
This thing called Wisdom must be so crucial to the intent that, it is advised that in order to get it, whatever needs to be sold, should be sold. Seems like a matter of must.
>“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”[Psalm 90:12 NIV]. To acquire (gain) wisdom, it is expedient to number (count, enumerate, calculate, take account of) our days.
The simple explanation of this verse of scripture is, NUMBER YOUR DAYS, (articulate) HOW LONG YOU’VE BEEN AROUND AND TAKE HEED TO YOURSELF IF YOU ARE ON TRACK OR GALLIVANTING AWAY. [NLT version of Psalm 90:12]==>“Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.”
This presupposes that when you count your days, (articulate how many years/days you have lived thus far, it will ginger you to focus on what is right, like the reason why you are here on this side of eternity; knowing fully well you aren’t here to live forever. It will set your heart racing to accomplishing purpose.
Beloved, no one is in the world as a stroller [though we all are here on a pilgrimage]. Each one of us came on a specific mission as commissioned by God. It is onus on every pilgrim therefore, to ensure their mission is accomplished before time of the departure. A pilgrim who does not apply his or her heart to wisdom (articulating the journey so far: number of days spent and likely number of days yet remaining; being mindful of the brevity of every life) will never accomplish purpose.
The activities and depth of relations on this side of eternity can get one so carried away that you forget totally why you are here. Jeremiah said >6)…“Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I do not know how to speak, For I am [only] a young man.”[Jeremiah 1:6AMP]
In response, God said >7) “Do not say, ‘I am [only] a young man,’ Because everywhere I send you, you shall go, And whatever I command you, you shall speak.” [Jeremiah 1:7 AMP]
Jeremiah, assuming he is too young to run his race, but God rebukes saying, ‘who says you are young’? Your looks must not fool you, your strength must not deceive you, NUMBER YOUR DAYS AND SET YOUR HEART TO WISDOM>>> PURSUE PURPOSE.
>Deuteronomy 32:29 (AMP)==>“O that they were wise, that they understood this, That they could discern their future and ultimate fate!”
>Psalm 39:4 ==> “LORD, let me know my [life’s] end And [to appreciate] the extent of my days; Let me know how frail I am [how transient is my stay here].” [AMP]
“O LORD, help me understand my mortality and the brevity of life! Let me realize how quickly my life will pass!”[NET]
Wow! How quickly life will pass away. You need to know the extent of your days
[HOW OLD ARE YOU?] Your status here is not that of a resident but a pilgrim… for this world is not your home, we all are just passing through. If you fail to understand your mortality and the brevity of life, time will run out on you and alas your mission will be unaccomplished or partially accomplished. TAKE THOUGHT NOW.John the Baptist came on a mission >Luke 1:15-17 (NET)==> 15)“for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He must never drink wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even before his birth. 16)He will turn many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. 17)And he will go as forerunner before the Lord in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared for him.””
Jesus was not left out, He had a mission >1) “Out of the stump of David’s family will grow a shoot— yes, a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root. 2)And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. 3)He will delight in obeying the Lord. He will not judge by appearance nor make a decision based on hearsay. 4)He will give justice to the poor and make fair decisions for the exploited. The earth will shake at the force of his word, and one breath from his mouth will destroy the wicked. 5)He will wear righteousness like a belt and truth like an undergarment.”[Isaiah 11:1-5NLT]
Jesus in particular, came here with the strongest of missions and beloved, in 33years He was done. What if He said like Jeremiah, “I am only a young man”; what would have happened to humanity? He could have died without fulfilling the purpose for which He came and that would have been a colossal tragedy to human salvation.
>1)“Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years.” 2)“He did what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight and followed the example of his ancestor David. He did not turn away from doing what was right.”[2 Chronicles 34:1-2NLT].
>2 Chronicles 26:1, 3-5(NLT)==>1)“All the people of Judah had crowned Amaziah’s sixteen-year-old son, Uzziah, as king in place of his father. 3)Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-two years. His mother was Jecoliah from Jerusalem. 4)He did what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight, just as his father, Amaziah, had done. 5)Uzziah sought God during the days of Zechariah, who taught him to fear God. And as long as the king sought guidance from the Lord, God gave him success.”
Josiah at eight years, Uzziah at sixteen years; both assumed the track of their mission. They both did well in the sight of the Lord. Age in itself is not wisdom, (it’s not in mere numbers). But when your number is sidelined with mission in mind, then you pursue purpose. Therefore, NUMBER YOUR DAYS >>> SET YOUR HEART TO WISDOM>>>EXPLORE MISSION [PURSUE PURPOSE> go everywhere HE sends you, speak whatever HE commands].
