Word Study For Today: The Book Of Psalm Chapter 45.

Text: 1 Samuel 18:1-5. | Genesis 18:1-17. | John 3:16.

The greatest form of Love is such that you love the other party(ies) just as you love yourself.

>Galatians 5:14 (AMP) ==>“For the whole Law [concerning human relationships] is fulfilled in one precept, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF [that is, you shall have an unselfish concern for others and do things for their benefit].””

That best describes the Love Jonathan had for David- Selfless love.

Jonathan, the heir apparent never felt intimidated by David coming to shine in his father’s territory. He felt secured in himself, knowing his strength and recognizing/affirming the strength of another. Jonathan appreciated the grace upon David’s life and chose to give him the right hand of fellowship- he fell in love with David. His love is worthy of note, in that it wasn’t mere lip love but deep and true love.

TRUE LOVE GIVES [it’s sacrificial]. True and real love does not think of self and self gain; true love is just and fair.

>John 3:16a (MSG)==>““This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son.

The cost of your love is the extent of what you are willing to give. [The price of love is what you are willing to give for it]. God gave His only begotten Son-Jesus Christ, just so that the world might be saved. Jonathan with his senses intact and his two eyes opened, stretched the scepter to David (giving up his right to the throne of his father Saul).

>1 Samuel 18:3-4 (AMP)==>3)Then Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. 4)Jonathan stripped himself of the outer robe that he was wearing and gave it to David, with his armor, including his sword, his bow, and his belt.”

>Genesis 22:1-2, 9-12(AMP)==>1)“Now after these things, God tested [the faith and commitment of] Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he answered, “Here I am.” 2)God said, “Take now your son, your only son [of promise], whom you love, Isaac, and go to the region of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

9)When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood, and bound Isaac his son and placed him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10)Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to kill his son. 11)But the Angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” He answered, “Here I am.” 12)The LORD said, “Do not reach out [with the knife in] your hand against the boy, and do nothing to [harm] him; for now I know that you fear God [with reverence and profound respect], since you have not withheld from Me your son, your only son [of promise].””

Oh Wow! The price of Love is a huge sacrifice. You can’t profess real and true love if you aren’t ready to part with your best [your one and only, your promise, your priced possession].

God gave His Only, Abraham was willing and actually attempted to give his child of promise, Jonathan gave up his throne opportunity.

WHAT IS THE PRICE OF YOUR LOVE [what are you willing to part with as proof of your love]? True love is not mouthy… True Love is sacrificial.

>John 15:13 (AMP)==>“No one has greater love [nor stronger commitment] than to lay down his own life for his friends.”

>John 15:12-13(MSG)==> 12)This is my command: Love one another the way I loved you. 13)This is the very best way to love. Put your life on the line for your friends.

The best way to love is to put your life on the line for your acclaimed lover. PAY THE PRICE OF LOVE.
